Slatterly Park 12:30pm
Slatterly Park Neighborhood Association (SPNA) together with Art on the Ave (AOA) have been awarded a Neighborhood Project Grant from RNeighbors to install a permanent sculpture at Slatterly Park in southeast downtown Rochester. The new sculpture is to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Art on the Ave, which grew out of grass roots efforts of neighbors in the Slatterly Park Neighborhood. Over the past 10 years, Art on the Ave has installed 14 public sculptures around the neighborhood which has helped establish the neighborhood as the artist quarter of downtown.
Request For Proposals(RFP) Process
A request for proposals began in June and a proposal was selected by SPNA and AOA board members at the end of July. The winning proposal was submitted by local artist Paul Cassidy or a large steel sculpture which will be permanently installed along the bike path in Slatterly Park.
About the Artist
Paul Cassidy grew up in on a farm near Rochester and currently resides here while he owns and operates an excavating company. His passion for metal sculpture began with his son’s interest in welding. Together they worked and learned together, building their first large scale metal sculpture called Dragon Gate. Today Paul uses scrap metal or old metal equipment as medium for his art and is active in sculpture competitions like ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
