Update: The gardens have been saved, see some weeds please pull them 🙂
The Slatterly Park neighborhood association is considering taking over the Slatterly Park community garden from the Rochester Area Foundation (which we realize is a little late in the planting season), however we are asking for volunteers to help save the Slatts community garden. We have set a work night for this coming Wednesday night May 27th to get them ready for gardening yet this summer.
The sad news is if we are unable to get volunteers for the first work night (May 27) the city will bulldoze the gardens and return the area to grass.
We need a minimum of six committed volunteers to help with the first work night (May 27) and then a second the following week for final prep to get the gardens ready for planting by June 5th. As a volunteer you do not need to be committed to having a garden plot, just willing to help save the community garden by coming out and helping for two hours to help remove weeds and get the gardens ready for use.
If we are able to get the gardens up and running we will need to form a small committee to develop a plan to maintain and foster the Community garden which will be critical to the future of this neighborhood resource.
If you are able to help or are interested in any of the following please email slatterlypark@gmail.com with which you are interested in, or to signup to help with the first work night click on the link below.
