Each year Art on the Ave moves from one block to another within the Slatterly Park neighborhood, and promotes boulevard gardens and public art in in this downtown neighborhood. The event highlight is that the host of the event receives a permanent metal sculpture that gets integrated into the boulevard garden, this year’s garden is going to be a ZEN garden, with a beautiful abstract piece done by Karl Friedrich www.karlfriedrich.com a local artist from Rochester.

Improve the neighborhood you live in and participate in Rochester’s “A Litter Bit Better” city wide litter pick up this next week starting Saturday, April 21st through Saturday the 28th by getting involved with your neighborhoods cleanup!

Here is how to get involved:

Trash bags will be available at the Slatterly Park Community Garden Tool Bench, where you’ll find large green bags for garbage and blue bags for recyclables. The bags will be available for pickup Saturday April 21-28, so you are free to choose when you want to participate during the week-it’s a great way to get the kids involved in the community! You may choose any area wherever you see trash to pick up within the neighborhood. The park and the river parkway has already been adopted by the Boy Scouts so it would be nice if people would walk along curbs, and other areas of the neighborhood, but the park is fair game too!

Let’s Celebrate!

Saturday April 28 12:00- 1:00pm

Bring your bags full of trash to the park shelter where pictures will be taken and we’ll have hot dogs on the grill.

12:30pm there will be a drawing for winners of restaurant gift cards. Winners need to be present.

Let’s see how big the mountain of trash bags we can make on Saturday, April 28th! Our Slatterly Park Neighborhood will look so nice and clean!

See you Saturday, April 28th at the park with your bags!

Art on the Ave. ‘Art’: Everyone’s favorite neighbor is an art market returning by popular demand! Last year’s event pulled in 600-800 people the second year of the market. The market is part of Slatterly’s 5th Annual Saturdays at Slatterly Bloom Day which is being held Saturday May 19, 2012 from 10:00am – 4:00pm on the nine hundred block of 5th Ave SE (one block west of Redeemer Lutheran Church). The event is being put on by the Slatterly Park Downtown Neighborhood Association.

The market showcases local artisans, with a mix of painters, glass blowers, metal workers, and jewelers, and will be much like the Thursdays on First market downtown on a smaller scale, with a goal to showcase local artwork, and refine that each year with this annual event. There will also be folk artists who will perform from 11:00 – 3:00pm, along with the huge chalk street mural like last year that was a huge success! Almost all of the 25 market vendors last year asked to come back again this year, which is a testament to the events success! It is a great event to kick off the 2012 Summer prior to Thursdays on First as well. You’ll love the personal attention our volunteers give the vendors, from free coffee during market setup, to assistance with canopy setup if required. Food will also be available for purchase at the Bloom Café.
